Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute (KNDI) Individual Professional Registration procedures for persons seeking to practice as a Nutritionist or Dietician in Kenya
The Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute (KNDI) is established by an Act of Parliament, Nutritionists and Dieticians Act, No. 18 of 2007, (CAP 253B) to provide for the training, registration and licensing of nutritionists and dieticians; to provide for the regulation of the standards, and practice of the profession; to ensure their effective participation in matters relating to nutrition and dietetics, and for connected purposes.
Vision; An innovative regulatory institute in the provision of nutrition and dietetics services recognized internationally.
Mission; To provide for regulation in training licensing, registration and licensing of nutritionists, accreditation of institutions dealing on matters of nutrition/dietetics and other best practices in the field of nutrition and dietetics in Kenya.
Goal; The core business is to provide an enabling environment for sustained improvement of nutrition and dietary status of all Kenya’s population groups.
In accordance with the Nutritionists and Dieticians Act, sections 16 and 17, the following procedures applies for all persons seeking for registration to practice as a nutritionist or dietician in Kenya:
Registration at Certificate and Diploma Levels
All applicants seeking for registration at certificate and diploma levels MUST;
- Have completed academic training at accredited colleges/universities.
- Apply and be subjected to;

Registration at Degree Level
All applicants seeking for registration at degree level MUST;
- Have completed academic training at accredited training institutions/universities.
- Apply and be subjected to;

- 1-year internship programme at KNDI accredited facilities. (Click here for more details on internship).

All payments are STRICTLY DONE upon receiving invoices from the online service portal when completing the online forms for the respective application processes.

After successful completion of all the steps for registration, the candidate MUST attend a Public License Award Ceremony prior to issuance of registration certificates and practice licenses where each applicant undertakes an oath of practice.

KNDI License Renewal
According to section 24 of the Nutritionists and Dieticians Act, a practitioner license is valid for one year and each practitioner must renew their license every financial year (June-June) upon expiry.
